Soon the leaves will turn brilliant colors, the air will become crisp, and the cozy scents and sounds of autumn will charm us once again. Autumn is the perfect time to dive into nature and marvel at God's incredible creation. This exciting fall sensory scavenger hunt is perfect for adults to help their children appreciate the beauty of this captivating season. Every rustling leaf and chattering squirrel is part of a grand symphony, celebrating the glory of the Lord. By jumping into this activity, you're not just enjoying the season but also engaging in a joyful form of worship, recognizing and honoring the Creator through His wondrous handiwork. Let's get started! Materials Needed:
Instructions Ready for an adventure? Grab your scavener hunt list and head out to your backyard, a nearby park, or any place where nature is alive with the sounds of fall. As you find each sound, take a moment to soak it in and think about how it adds to the beautiful chorus of autumn. Faith and Fall Scavenger Hunt List – Downloadable Here 1. Crunching Leaves: Jump into a pile of leaves and enjoy the super satisfying crunch under your feet. What do the leaves smell like? Feel like? Sound like? 2. Moonlight Glow: On a clear autumn night, look up at the big, bright moon and see how it changes the lighting in the world around you. Do fall colors look different in the moonlight? Did you know that the moon changes shape every night? 3. Bird Songs: Keep your ears open for the cheerful chirping of birds getting ready to head south. You might even spot a flock of geese flying in a perfect "V" formation. Can you mimmick the bird sounds you hear? 4. Squirrel Chatter: Find a busy squirrel and listen to its chattering or watch it bury acorns as it gets ready for winter. What does the squirrel sound like? Did you know that a squirrel uses its bushy tail to help balance itself and also as an umbrella? 5. Rainfall: If you happen to catch a bit of rain, listen to the gentle patter of rain on leaves, the ground, or your umbrella. This is fall's version of a lullaby. Are you sleepy yet? 6. Harvest Sounds: Do you live on or near a farm or garden? Describe the rustling of corn stalks or the hum of a tractor. It's the sound of fall's bounty being gathered! Are you ready for a feast? 7. Acorn or Pinecone: Collect an acorn or pinecone and see what noise it makes when it hits the ground or when you step on it. Each one has its own unique sound. Did you know that an acorn is a seed, put a pinecone contains many seeds within its scales. 8. Seasonal Foods: Grab an apple and listen to the satisfying crunch when you bite into it. Or gut a pumpkin and make squishing noises with the pulp. What does it feel like? Does it the smell remind you of fall? 9. Cool Breeze: Close your eyes and feel the crisp autumn breeze while listening to the whispering sounds it makes as it weaves through the trees and grass. How do we know wind exists if we can't see it? 10. Bonfire Crackle: If you get a chance, safely gather around a bonfire or fire pit and listen to the cozy crackling sounds. It's the perfect soundtrack for a fall evening. Take in the moment and think about what you see, smell, and hear. And ... if you're toasting hot dogs or marshmallows, what do you taste? Bonus Fall Activities 1. Nature's Instruments: Find objects that can make sounds, like acorns, rocks, twigs, and crinkly leaves. Create ways to make your own fall symphony! 2. Record the Sounds: Use your smartphone or an audio recorder to capture the sounds of fall and make a cool sound collage. 3. Sound Journaling: Draw or write about the sounds you hear and how they make you feel. Let your creativity flow! 4. Nature Walk: Take a stroll and simply listen to the sounds around you. Look at the new beautiful colors. Smell the smells. Touch the textures. Notice how each one adds to the magical fall atmosphere. Optional Reflection Activities 1. Story Time: Read "Song of the Seasons" by Glenys Nellist and talk about how the sounds you discovered connect with the story. 2. Prayer and Reflection: Take a moment to thank the Lord for the beautiful sounds of fall and how they sing praises to Him. 3. Group Discussion: Share your favorite fall discoveries with your group and explain why you love them. It's fun to hear everyone's different perspectives! How do you think all of these things — the colorful fall leaves, apples, pumpkins, etc. — show how amazing God is? How do you think these fun fall things help us feel closer to God?
