Here I am, at 60, doing something I’ve always wanted to do. Yes … it’s taken me a long time to get here. I mean, I wrote my first story about a bunny who had a wicked stepmom at the age of 8. So, my dream has been 52 years in the making. Sitting at my desk earlier this week, I couldn't help but pause and soak in the scene — creating the timeline for my mid-grade novel Almost a Ghost and catching a glimpse of my storyboard for Remmy’s Sticky Situation. Is it weird to admit that I’ve always wanted to make storyboards for my own stories? Yep. I'm that kind of nerd. I am excited and humbled at the same time. God is so good. Did I ever have doubts I would have the opportunity to do this? You bet. Because we don't always get what we want, wouldn't you agree? But, as corny as it may sound, I also believed that if I didn't get my shot at being an author here on Earth, there was always Heaven. Although I admit, I still whined to God about it at times. Big Shoutouts to My Super Squad
My husband Jim is my prayer partner, a willing brainstorming buddy for story ideas, and encourages me to take chances. My kids have been both an inspiration and a source of support for me throughout the years, and my grandkids are the inspiration for much of what I write. Then there is my ever-encouraging mom who probably knows more than anyone how long I’ve wanted to be an author. My advice for those of you who have a dream they haven’t been able to fully invest in just yet. Keep praying. Keep finding little ways to feed your dreams along the way. And take time to relish all the other blessings life brings, both big and small. Because who are we to know that mind of God and what He has planned for us? Just know that whatever it is, it is good. Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
