Writing Prompt for Kids

Picture
Pretend you’re one of God’s amazing animals, munching on your favorite breakfast food near the tomb where Jesus was laid to rest. All of a sudden, something super special starts happening at the tomb. The big stone in front of the tomb starts moving, all on its own! Your heart starts racing as you watch in amazement. Then, out of the tomb comes Jesus, shining brighter than the sun!

Now it’s time to grab your pencils, crayons — whatever you love to write or draw with — and share your story!

Reflection
"But he is not here. He has risen from death as he said he would. Come and see the place where his body was." Matthew 28:6 (ICB)

Let's Begin Exploring
  1. Get into Character. Which animal did you choose to be and what are you eating for breakfast?
  2. Use Your Senses. What do your surroundings look like? And smell like?
  3. Express Yourself. How do you feel when you first notice something unusual happening at the tomb?
  4. Listen Up. What sounds do you hear as Jesus emerges from the tomb? How do they make you feel?
  5. Chec with Friends. Are there any other animals you see or talk to? And what do they do or say?

Activities & Crafts: Easter Morning Magic
  1. Resurrection Garden: Use materials from nature to create a miniature garden depicting the scene of Jesus' resurrection. You can also add your special chosen animal to the scene. For more details, click here.
  2. Resurrection Role Play: Create a costume representing you as the animal you chose and playout your story. (No link to instructions here. It's all about imagination!)
  3. Animal Mask Craft: Make a mask of your chosen animal using paper plates, paint, and other craft materials. Wear your mask as you imagine yourself experiencing the Easter story. Click here for more instructions.
  4. Resurrection Eggs: Create a set of resurrection eggs using plastic eggs filled with symbols representing different parts of the Easter story. Grab some ideas on what to put in your eggs here.

Rise and Shine Snacks
  1. Animal-Shaped Cookies: Bake cookies shaped like your chosen animal and decorate them with icing. Enjoy them as you reflect on the Easter story.
  2. Easter Story Snack Mix: Make a colorful snack mix using ingredients that remind you of the Easter story, such as animal crackers, pretzels, cereal, M&Ms, mini candy eggs, and nuts. Hot tip: Toss your mix with melted white chocolate bark. Mix it all together, add some fancy sprinkles, and share with friends as you discuss the resurrection story.

What other fun Easter reflection activities or traditions does your family like to do?
