![]() A Night to Remember at Fables Books Goshen First Fridays was buzzing a little louder this month—and not just from the usual festivities. It was the official launch of my children’s book, Remmy's Sticky Situation, and the turnout at Fables Books in downtown Goshen, Indiana, was nothing short of incredible. My talented illustrator, Jasmine Wall, joined me for the event, and together we got to meet so many wonderful families who were just as excited about Remmy's mischievous adventure as we were. Selling Out ... Almost! One of the most exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking) parts of the evening? We sold out of hardback copies of the book! Luckily, we had an extra box stashed in the car, so no one left disappointed. Thank you to everyone who grabbed a copy—and especially to those who came back just to say how much their little ones were already enjoying the book. Fizzlets: Science and Magic in a Cup We also handed out a super fun little science experiment we dubbed "Fizzlets." Inspired by Remmy’s discovery that cotton candy disappears in water, we created these from real cotton candy and a touch of edible Brew glitter. These were take-home experiments, instructing kids to drop the Fizzlets into sparkling water or other carbonated beverage and watch in awe as the candy vanished with a delightful fizz and left behind a shimmery swirl of magic. You can catch a video here on my Facebook and full instructions on how to make your own with Remmy's FREE Step into Story Pack. ![]() Sweet Second Stop at South Bend Chocolate Cafe Our second book signing event took place at the beloved South Bend Chocolate Cafe. Between delicious, Remmy-themed cupcakes (crafted lovingly by my daughter, Lindsey!) and a hands-on “dumpster diving” activity, the atmosphere was full of sugar, smiles, and storytelling. Kids dug through a tabletop dumpster to find pretend “trash” and matched it to characters from the book. Educational and fun! Books with Purpose: Combining STEM and SEL My niche as a children’s author is to fulfill the growing need for stories that creatively combine STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) with SEL (social and emotional learning). Because of this, I always include backmatter in my books to inspire learning and fun beyond the story itself. Plus additional resources on my website. These extra materials encourage families, teachers, and young readers to dig deeper with engaging, hands-on activities that reinforce both educational and emotional development. If you enjoyed Remmy’s Sticky Situation, be sure to check out my other book, The Wonder of Under—a story that encourages kids to use their imagination to create their own adventures. Gratitude Runs Deep Of course, none of this could’ve happened without my amazing family. They are my biggest cheerleaders and supporters. My husband, Jim, always helps with the carrying of all the things author book-signing tables are made of. And for my daughter, Lindsey, thank you for those incredible Remmy-themed cupcakes that tasted as good as they looked. Andrea and Nathan, I’m endlessly grateful for all the help you lend (and for bringing the grandkids who make these events even more special). And to my mom, who’s always there with encouragement and helping hands—thank you. Heartfelt Reviews from Readers It’s one thing to launch a book—it’s another to hear how it touches readers. Here are three beautiful testimonials we’ve received: "Young readers ages 3 – 8 will relate to Remmy on his silly and sweet adventure. Sawyer has a talent setting up age-appropriate ‘crime scenes’ and ushering preschoolers into an investigation of ‘who-dun-it!’ Along the way, they learn the value of friendship and the power of forgiveness." – Sally Matheny, NC "Oh, goodness, what an ADORABLE little book that teaches about forgiveness and friendship in a really fun way. Who couldn’t fall in love with a hungry raccoon on the hunt for cotton candy? Remmy’s Sticky Situation is creative writing and storytelling at its finest." – Glenys Nellist, MI "Readers will have a science lesson on disappearing cotton candy and also learn life skills as Remmy finds out about true friendship. I highly recommend this book for anyone with children, grandchildren, or educators seeking a way to combine STEM and social/emotional skills for their classrooms." – Melanie Elrod, NC Thank you to everyone who has supported Remmy’s Sticky Situation. Your encouragement, enthusiasm, and love mean the world to me—and to Remmy!
